I call this "Leroy Rose" for my friend, Leroy Carter, whose florals are all so awesome, and almost always have a black background. My dark background id made by using blue, red and green, one over the other, while they are still wet.
Vickie started painting at a very early age, using her milk from dinner to wet her Prang watercolors. Boy, did she get into trouble! Things got better when she got older and took classes from her mentor, Tom Fong. He was instrumental in her using larger brushes and her becoming freer in her painting. After graduating with a teaching degree (in mathematics, not art), she taught at Hawthorne High in Southern California. When Tom decided to retire from Hughes Aircraft and not make the commute to El Segundo, Vickie took over his class at the Joslyn Center in El Segundo. She has been teaching there since 1993.
